The Prostate
The prostate is a variable-sized gland located in the male pelvis, usually the size of a walnut measuring 3-4 centimeters long by 3-5 centimeters in width. Onaverage the gland weighs about 20 grams. It is found behind the pubic bone, in front of the rectum, and below the bladder, surrounded by the pelvic muscles.
The prostate surrounds the urethra which carries urine from the bladder to the penis and travels in the center of the gland. The seminal vesicles attach to the prostate and produce material that mixes with prostatic fluid to form semen. The tubes from the testicles carry sperm to the prostate where the sperm are mixed with the prostate and seminal vesicle fluid. This fluid is then ejaculated during orgasm by a connection to the urethra called the ejaculatory ducts.
Prostatitis
This is the most-neglected male disease in the U.S. It strikes more men than either prostate cancer or prostate enlargement. It can be one of the most miserable diseases inflicted on men. It strikes them at younger ages. It lasts longer.
SYMPTOMS:
These mimic the symptoms of prostate growth, such as:
- Frequent urge to urinate
- Difficult start, dribbling
- Nighttime trips to the bathroom
The symptom that sets prostatitis apart from prostate growth is pain. This varies from mild to so severe it renders a man helpless. Indeed, some people refer to a man in severe prostatitis pain as a "prostate cripple."
BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA (BPH)
Non-Cancerous Prostate Growth
Diagnosis of non-cancerous prostate growth. This condition is normally identified by its symptoms. The most common include:
- Getting up nights to go to the bathroom
- Sudden, almost irresistible need to urinate
- A weak, start-stop stream
- Problems getting the stream to start.
The prostate begins to enlarge in all men usually starting in their 40's. Once growth starts, it might not stop as long as life goes on. Effects of this growth vary from almost unbearable misery to minor annoyance, and points in-between. The general rule is that one man in four over age 60 will become so aggravated by BPH he will need physical relief.
Why doctors label this condition benign," only they can explain, because it is anything but benign. If not properly cared for, it can lead to extremely serious consequences, including kidney damage and failure.
It is important to know that the prostate grows in two different ways. In one growth, cells multiply around the urine passageway through the prostate and squeeze it much like you could squeeze a straw in a cola.
The second type of growth is much worse. This is middle-lobe growth in which cells grow into the urine tube and even up and into the bladder. This type of growth, called "cork in a bottle," can be cleared up only through surgery.
So prostate enlargement is NOT simply a case of too many prostate cells. This growth involves hormones; it appears in different kinds of prostate cells; and it affects each man differently.
What about this kind of growth and prostate cancer? People sometimes ask if an enlarging prostate increases the risk of prostate cancer. There is NO connection. A man can have prostate growth with no cancer. He can have prostate growth with cancer. And he can have prostate cancer with no enlargement.
What is cancer of the prostate (CaP)?
A: Normal prostate cells live and die according to their natural schedule. After a cell lives its allotted time, it reproduces itself exactly, then dies. For some reason not yet clear, a prostate cell does not die when it should. Instead, it divides into more cells as uncontrolled and death-defying as the original. Uncontrolled divisions from that single cell continue until the cells clump to form a malignant tumor.
If nothing stops the growth of malignant cells, they can break off the parent tumor, travel within the body and lodge elsewhere.
The Prevention And Cure Of Prostate Problems
General health habits can help prevent most prostate problems. Simply walking helps massage the tissues of the prostate an area structures and improve circulation and nutrition for prostate health. Eating right for your body type can help keep a better hormonal balance which in turn prevents prostate problems. A handful of pumpkin seeds are rich in nutrients the prostate needs. Sexual regularity can be helpful. The following nutrients have been helpful in preventing and correcting prostate problems: pollen extract, essential fatty acids, vitamin E, chlorophyll, zinc, B-6, fish liver oil are just a few of the products that we use to correct prostate disorders. Misalignment in the low back can interfere with the normal nerve control to the prostate and many times the correction of this can cause dramatic improvement. Acupuncture can be helpful in the overall treatment of prostate problems. We carry several prostate formulas that we have found very useful in the treatment of enlarged prostate and prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is one of the slowest developing forms of cancer and yields itself to nutritional therapy.
Chiropractic and natural health care can resolve prostate disorders 80% of the time. There is no other healthcare approach that has a higher success rate or even tries to treat the underlying causes of prostate problems. Most approaches just deal with the end result by surgery and drugs. Pharmaceutical and surgical approaches to prostate problems have a very high side effect rate and can cause more problems than they fix.
